Local Riders enjoy success at National Championships

Twin Trees Equestrian Centre in Northill enjoyed success in the National Horseball Championships held at Arena UK in Lincs. Three teams went to the Champs: A cadet team (U13), a Junior team (U16) and a Senior team.

The finals consisted of 4 matches played in a round robin format over the weekend. The teams travelled up on the Friday to get the horses settled and ready for the vet inspection at 8am Saturday morning. The cadet team played their first game in front of a large crowd and despite playing some good horseball they came up short and lost 2-1 Ella Rogers getting their consolation goal. The cadets turned it around in their second game and defended brilliantly and were unlucky not to win having to settle for a hard fought draw in the end.

The junior team found the competition very tough as most of the teams they played had been together as a team for longer with teams competing for international places! Their first game saw them matched up against South Casey and although the score ended 7-0 they earnt great praise from the officials for competing against higher opposition. Their second game against Newnham on Severn proved a similar story with a final score of 6-0 which again was no disgrace.

Rachel in action:

The seniors team of Catherine, Will, Vicky and Caroline played South Causey in their first game and despite good possession of the ball they were undone by some well rehearsed moves and ended up losing 3-1. The second game proved much better for the team getting a well deserved 2-2 draw against Orston. Vicky and Caroline getting a goal each.

Sunday saw the cadets enjoying a truly fantastic day winning the opening game 5-0. Ella and Amie scoring 2 each with Becky scoring the other. This left one game remaining against Derby and with this game ending 1-1 it meant the girls from Twin Trees had won the cadet Championship at their first attempt.

Cadet Team:

The juniors ended their Champs off with a 8-0 rerverse against the eventual winners Derby .

The seniors ended their Champs off with a credible 3-3 draw with Derby . Catherine, Vicky and Caroline scoring for Twin Trees.

Senior Team:

The weekend ended with a presentation. The cadets picking up rosettes and prizes for winning their age group. The juniors picked up special rosettes for their efforts and the Senior team ended a credible 3 rd.

Cadet team: Amie Eales (Captain), Rachel Anthony, Ella Rogers, Becky Frost

Junior team: Beth Saunders (Captain), Chloe Webb, Kirsty Watts, Katie Frost

Senior team: Catherine Anthony (Captain), Will Webber, Caroline Dean, Vicky Westcott
